The Interior CS, however, stopped short of naming the leaders allegedly behind the plan, saying only that the government had intelligence.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday evening signalled a looming security crackdown ahead of today’s planned Gen Z anniversary protests, warning that prominent individuals accused of mobilising goons to infiltrate the demonstrations would begin facing arrest from Tuesday night.
In a strongly worded briefing at Harambee House, Mr Murkomen said the government had intelligence indicating that some leaders were plotting to exploit the June 25 protests by unleashing criminal gangs to terrorise peaceful demonstrators, attack businesses and cause chaos in Nairobi and neighbouring areas.
