Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday met Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, in talks expected to help in efforts for a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto in next year’s election.
Mr Musyoka arrived at Mr Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home mid-morning accompanied by several of his close allies, entering into a meeting with his host that lasted several hours.
Both sides were expected to later on Monday share details of the talks believed to be centred around a single presidential candidate the opposition believes is capable of making him a one term President.
The meeting came a week after Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna also held talks with Mr Gachagua in Wamunyoro on October 20, 2026, a day after the former Deputy President returned to the country from his two-month US tour.
The three opposition leaders - Mr Musyoka, Mr Gachagua and Mr Sifuna – are believed to hold the key to unlock opposition unity and should they strike a deal, could pose a serious challenge to President Ruto’s re-election bid.
On Sunday, Mr Musyoka told off a section of politicians allied to Dr Ruto, particularly in the broad-based government, who have opposed his association with Mr Gachagua.
DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi welcome Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at their Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County on October 26, 2026.
Speaking on Sunday at Ithareini ACK Church in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, Mr Musyoka said his political bond with Mr Gachagua remains firm, and that they have been consulting each other for some time now, especially after the DCP leader also visited him at his Tseikuru home.
“I want Kenyans to know that we will continue visiting each other, so it is not a big deal the way I see people putting things. Some have been sent to try and create problems at a time our negotiations are delicate,” Mr Musyoka said.
“I will personally talk with all leaders who want to lead this country as the President. We must remain firm in this journey,” he added.
He told Kenyans that when they see the opposition leaders talking to each other, they should know that the consultations are in search of unity.
“When you see us visiting each other that is basically what it is. It is remaining 10 months to the next general elections. Please church pray for this country to get it right this time,” he said.
At the same time, Mr Musyoka dismissed speculation that he has been holding talks with President Ruto over a possible alliance, saying that Wiper party would never join UDA and that his team opposed the impeachment motion against Mr Gachagua.
