Oburu flies to London for medical check-up, political engagements

ODM leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up after a brief visit to a Nairobi hospital last week.
ODM communications director Philip Etale said Oburu is in the UK for a regular medical check-up as well as political engagements with Kenyans living in London.
“The party leader is just like any other normal human being. He went for a regular medical check-up as well as political engagements,” Mr Etale said.
He has said Oburu would meet Kenyans in London who had invited him for discussions on the political situation in Kenya.
“He will be meeting with Kenyans in London who have also invited him so that they can have a conversation regarding our country,” Mr Etale said.
The latest trip comes against a backdrop of previous health concerns involving the 83-year-old ODM leader.
The disclosure of Dr Oburu's latest trip came as ODM outlined a series of activities across the country to mark Raila Odinga's legacy, with the programme set to run through October.
Rosa Buyu, the MP for Kisumu West has said the activities would provide an opportunity for ODM supporters to honour Raila and reaffirm their commitment to the ideals he championed.

The programme will begin on October 12 with family-led activities, which will culminate in the main memorial service at Kango K’Ajaromgi in Bondo.
On October 17, ODM will hold a memorial rally in Garissa Town, bringing together party members and supporters from the northern Kenya counties of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Marsabit.
The party will then hold memorial activities in the coastal region on October 18 and 19, before the country marks Mashujaa Day on October 20.
Memorial activities will resume in Kajiado County on October 21, followed by a series of events in Turkana County from October 23 to 25.
The month-long programme will culminate in Nairobi on October 31, when ODM plans to hold a major memorial rally.
The party has dubbed October as “Mwezi wa Baba” and urged its supporters to use the period to rededicate themselves to Raila’s ideals.
“On 31st October 2026, Mwezi wa Baba, we will have the memorial rally in Nairobi County. We urge all our supporters to rededicate their commitment to Baba’s ideals,” Ms Buyu said.
The memorial programme is expected to take ODM’s political activities beyond Raila’s traditional strongholds, with rallies planned in northern Kenya, the Coast, Kajiado and Turkana before the final gathering in Nairobi.
