President William Ruto has labelled his critics "prophets of doom", who only focus on faulting everything he says and does.
While defending his State of the Nation Address which he delivered in Parliament on Thursday, President Ruto said the opposition lacks a vision and agenda for this country. He said it cannot be true that every plan he has for this nation is impossible.
“Many leaders are speaking negatively. They are just prophets of doom. They keep saying it is not possible. If everything is not possible, what are you doing here?” President Ruto posed.
The Head of State spoke on Saturday while attending the 11th anniversary of the Gospel Embassy Chapel in Kisii town.
“I noticed the other day when I delivered the State of the Nation Address, journalists struggled, repeatedly saying, Ruto has said... Ruto has said... they were referring to those working on the Affordable Housing project,” Dr Ruto remarked.
“At least we agree on one thing: they believed it's impossible. We may argue about numbers, and that’s fine, but work is ongoing, and our young people are now employed," he added.
"Arguing over which number is right or which statistics are accurate is valid. At least we have settled one thing: something is happening in our country. Transformation is underway. We may debate the numbers and statistics, but we all agree that we are moving forward as a nation,” he said.
President Ruto delivered his third State of the Nation Address during the joint sitting of the National Assembly and the Senate on Thursday.
In what appears to be an effort to win over the Kisii community, the President, who has not visited county for several months, said he has the interests of the Kisii community at heart.
He urged opposition leaders to present their vision for the country instead of traversing the nation chanting “one term.”
While outlining his development record, the President challenged opposition leaders to disclose what they have done for the country.
“Do not just roam around saying one term, 'Kasongo must go'. That is foolishness! Show us your agenda instead if you smart enough," the President said.
The Head of State asserted that his administration is achieving significant development to transform Kisii. He mentioned ongoing projects, including electricity connectivity, market construction, affordable housing, the SGR terminal at Ikonge, road improvements, and the expansion of Gusii Stadium to international standards.
The President, who donated Sh20 million to the church, was accompanied by Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo, Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro and United Democratic Alliance Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi.
Also present at the function was Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya and her Nyamira counterpart Jerusha Momanyi, along with MPs Alpha Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), Zaheer Jhanda (Nyaribari Chache), and Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango).
