A section of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) delegates has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) to discuss, among other things, the April 24, 2026, resolution made by nine members of the federation's National Executive Committee that led to the suspension of FKF president Hussein Mohammed.
In a letter addressed to the acting FKF General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Gicheru, 66 out of 94 delegates, among them branch chairpersons and club officials, also want the SGM convened to discuss the implications of the April 24 resolution on the activities of the federation.

In the letter dated May 18, 2026 and addressed to FKF General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, the 66 delegates also want the meeting to discuss the conduct of FKF’s NEC members, and to arrive at a resolution.
The April 24 resolutions passed by nine members of FKF’s NEC, led by vice president McDonald Mariga, include the suspension of FKF president Hussein Mohammed, CEO Gicheru and NEC member Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim over claims of corruption linked to the provision of Sh42.4 million insurance for the delayed 2024 African Nations Championship.
However, on May 26, Fifa rejected the suspension of the trio, noting that the right procedure was not followed. Fifa did not address the issues that led to the attempted suspension of the FKF president.
In calling for the SGM, the delegates cited Articles 24 and 31 of the FKF Constitution 2017.
Article 24 (C) states that the General Assembly has the authority to elect, ratify and dismiss the president and other members of the NEC.
Article 31 of FKF Constitution allows FKF to hold an SGM when an important decision cannot wait for the Annual General Meeting.
However, some of the delegates who appended their signatures in the letter calling for the SGM have since written to the federation withdrawing their signatures.
They are FKF Lamu Branch chairman, Sultwan Swaleh, Taita Taveta Branch chairman, Duncan Maghanga, and Busia Branch chairman, Eugene Okello.
FKF has 94 delegates. However, during the last national election on December 7, 2024, only 90 delegates were eligible for the elections.
On May 22, Mariga secured an injunction from the Sports Disputes Resolution (SDT), halting disciplinary proceedings against him by the FKF. The SDT directed all parties to file responses within seven days and set June 2 for further directions on the matter.
On April 24, 2026, nine FKF NEC members voted to suspend Hussein, Gicheru and Yusuf over fraud allegations related to procurement of insurance worth Sh42.8 million for the 2024 African Nations Championships (Chan).
The dissenting NEC members installed Mariga as the federation’s acting president. But Hussein secured court orders blocking his removal from office.
