New champions were crowned as the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two National Games concluded yesterday at M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
St Joseph’s Girls High School from Rift Valley won a maiden girls’ national football title, while fellow Rift Valley side, Andersen Senior School, and Chemasisi Boys High School from Western region won girls’ netball and boys’ volleyball titles respectively for the first time.
In boys’ sevens rugby, Western region’s Butula Boys High School won the national title for the first time, while Nyanza’s Agoro Sare High School and Ikutha Girls Secondary School from Eastern also claimed maiden titles in boys’ and girls’ basketball 3x3 respectively.
Meanwhile, Western’s Kakamega School reclaimed the boys’ national football title, as did Rift Valley’s Kesegon Mixed Secondary School in girls’ volleyball, while Central region’s Kinale Girls High School successfully defended the girls’ rugby sevens crown.
During the five-day championship, the boys’ and girls’ football competitions attracted large crowds, with the attendance peaking yesterday.

Boys’ football final
The highly-anticipated boys’ football final match lived up to its billing, with Kakamega School, nicknamed “Green Commandos” clinching the title with a hard-fought 3-2 win over St Mary’s School Yala from Nyanza region.
Making their return to the national championships for the first time since 2018 when they lifted the title, Kakamega School were impressive, winning all their matches on their way to the thrilling final.
Against St Mary’s Yala who were also outstanding on their way to the final, Kakamega School showed their intent to reclaim the title by taking the lead in the first half through Julius Ochieng. St Mary’s Yala, nicknamed “Black Saints” equalised at the stroke of halftime through Collins Otieno.

Otieno completed his brace in the 55th minute before Kakamega School equalised through Derick Wanyonyi in the 80th minute. Green Commandos sealed the victory with an extra-time winner from Eugene Ochieng.
“We thank God for giving us the victory because the match has been very tough. We knew we would win the title,” said Ochieng, vowing that they would also clinch the title in the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) championships.
