KCB Rugby were crowned the 2025 National Sevens Circuit champions yesterday after defeating Kabras Sugar 12-5 in the Dala Sevens final at Mamboleo Stadium, Kisumu.

The victory sealed KCB’s fifth national title, making them the most successful side in the tournament’s history.

They moved past Kenya Harlequin, Impala, and Mwamba, who each have four titles.

KCB had already been mathematically assured of the national crown after seeing off their closest rivals, Strathmore Leos, 15-14 in the quarter-final.

Former Leos star George Ooro was the hero against his ex-club, scoring twice, including a last-minute try that sealed the match win and circuit title for the bankers.

KCB then eased past Daystar Falcons 19-5 in the semi-final before out-muscling the sugarmaen in the final match.

Head coach Andrew Amonde praised his players’ resilience after the team’s near-perfect campaign.

“This win shows our character. It’s not easy to keep making finals. The boys showed skill, but more than that, they showed heart. We take every game like a final, and that mentality carried us through,’ Amonde said.

Amonde, a Kenya Sevens legend, noted that the triumph was built on consistency across the circuit.

“Actually, that’s the mantra: Every match is a final. That’s what has kept us going,” he added.

The 2025 campaign stretched over six legs, with KCB displaying both dominance and composure.

KCB featured in all finals. They opened in Mombasa, beating Menengai Oilers 17-5 in the Driftwood Sevens final.

At the Prinsloo Sevens, Strathmore handed them a 17-10 defeat.

KCB quickly bounced back at the Christie Sevens, defeating Oilers 19-5, before Strathmore once again proved stubborn at the Embu Sevens, edging the bankers 31-21.

The turning point came at the Kabeberi Sevens, where KCB claimed their fourth consecutive title of the event by defeating Daystar Falcons 20-10.

That win placed them in a commanding position to win the overall circuit, setting the stage for their final push in Kisumu.

By the time the circuit reached the lakeside city, KCB needed only a semi-final finish to clinch the overall title.
