Kenya Sevens have everything to fight for as the World Rugby Sevens Division II series enters the final leg this weekend at Estádio Nicolau Alayon in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In the race to qualify for promotion to the World Rugby Sevens Series next season, leaders Germany and second-placed USA have secured places in the next round of the qualifiers, the World Championship, after enthralling action in the first two rounds of World Rugby Sevens Division II series in Nairobi and Montevideo.
Kenya, Uruguay, Canada and Belgium head to bruising battle in Sao Paulo, where they will fight it out for two remaining slots in the World Championship.
Kenya Shujaa, who have one leg in the World Championship, need to win at least three matches in Sao Paulo so as to secure a place in the season finale. USA and Germany top the standings on 38 points each, followed by Kenya (32), Uruguay (28), while Canada and Belgium are both on 22 points.

Kenya Shujaa play Germany from 4.22pm today, then play Belgium from 7.12pm, and Canada from 10.21pm. Past meetings between Kenya and Germany have been see-saw affairs. Kenya won 15-10 in Nairobi leg of the World Rugby Sevens Division II series on February 14 at Nyayo National Stadium, and the Germans turned the tables in the second leg in Montevideo, winning 12-7 on March 21.
Belgium did not score against Kenya in the first two legs, losing 33-0 to Kenya in Nairobi, and capitulating 20-0 in Montevideo. Kenya also remained unbeaten against Canada and Uruguay. Kenya won 29-12 in Nairobi and 19-5 in Montevideo against Canada, and triumphed 17-7 in Nairobi and 22-14 in Montevideo against Uruguay.
USA have been a thorn in the flesh for Kenya, winning 14-10 in Nairobi, and 21-5 in Montevideo respectively.

Kenya Lionesses
But bottom-placed Kenya Lionesses must win all their matches in the women’s contest to stand a chance of making it to the World Championship.
Kenya and Brazil are bottom of the women’s competition on 22 points each. Argentina (40 points), South Africa (34) and Spain (34) have secured places in the women’s World Championship. Fourth-placed China who are on 28 points, Brazil and Kenya Lionesses are fighting for a single remaining slot in women’s World Championship.
Only the top four teams men and women’s competitions across the three legs will progress to the three-leg World Championship series planned for Hong Kong from April 17 to 19, Valladolid in Spain (May 29-31), and in Bordeaux, France (June 5-7).

Winners will be crowned world champions, and the top eight teams will play in the 2026/2027 World Rugby Division I series. Four teams that finish at the bottom will be relegated to Division World Rugby Division II series where Kenya is playing at the moment.
