A four-member gang disguised as churchgoers infiltrated Kitengela Police Sacco Estate and targeted the home of former GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni.
Around 1.40pm on Sunday, August 16, a suspect believed to be part of a four-member gang was captured on CCTV assaulting a security guard who had attempted to block a getaway car at Kitengela Police Sacco Estate in Kitengela town, Kajiado County.
Two hours earlier, according to guards manning the estate’s main gate, two men and two women had gained entry after disguising themselves as members of a local church attending a prayer meeting and bypassing standard visitor registration procedures.

As the gates of the estate swung open, little did the guards suspect that they had allowed suspected robbers into one of the most secure estates in Kitengela.
The area is home to serving and retired senior police officers, making it one of the estates with a high number of licensed gun holders in Kitengela. A few residents are civilians, however, and the estate also hosts hotels and churches.
The incident raised concern among residents, particularly because the estate houses serving and retired officers and is regarded as tightly secured. The suspects targeted a home on Fifth Avenue owned by former General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni.
He handed over command of the paramilitary formation in June 2026 after serving for two years.
Ranson Lolmodooni (MBS, OGW) is a retired senior Kenyan police officer who served as the Commandant of the elite General Service Unit.
Mr Lolmodooni was a Senior Assistant Inspector-General. The home is at least 700 metres from the estate’s main gate. According to a police report seen by Nation and corroborated by neighbours, the suspects used specialised cutting tools to access the compound and house before making away with cash packed in carton boxes.
The police report indicated that an undisclosed amount of money was recovered along the avenue after falling from the carton boxes while being carried away. No one was home during the daylight incident.
A neighbour who spoke to Nation in confidence corroborated the police report, adding that the suspects left a trail of banknotes along Fifth Avenue.
“They (robbers) left a trail of money. Sh1,000 notes were strewn along the pathway. At the main gate, they were reported to have splashed bank notes to onlookers and guards to distract them,” a neighbour said.

The neighbour’s account was corroborated by a message posted by a security official in the estate WhatsApp group seen by Nation.
“[A] serious security incident occurred on Fifth Avenue when four armed men and two women, disguised as members [of] Mugo’s prayer meetings, gained entry through the main gate.”
“They forcefully broke into Ranson’s residence and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. Due to rapid community coordination and police intervention, a portion of the stolen cash was recovered within the avenue,” the WhatsApp message reads in part.
The security chairman and local authorities tracked an abandoned getaway vehicle to Isinya, recovering multiple number plates, a firearm and additional cash. The matter is under police investigation.
“Our gate security guard, Samuel, sustained injuries while attempting to block the suspects’ exit. We extend our best wishes and a quick recovery,” a message on the WhatsApp group reads.
“We have requested increased police patrols to maintain a visible and active presence within the estate. Residents are urged to fully cooperate with security personnel at the main entrance regarding screening and visitors’ access,” the message further reads.
On Tuesday, visitors were subjected to thorough screening at the estate’s main gate following the Sunday incident. In a phone interview yesterday, Mr Lolmodooni confirmed the incident, saying that robbers got into his house mid-morning on Sunday while he was away. The robbers, he said, gained access to the living room.
Mr Lolmodooni reported the matter at Isinya Police Station but denied that any money was stolen from his residence.
“To me it was an attempted robbery. My neighbours heard them and raised alarm. I made a formal report at Isinya police station... no money was stolen. We don’t keep money in the house. It is just rumours,” Mr Lolmodooni said before disconnecting the call.
At the main gate, one of the guards was recorded on CCTV trying to block the getaway car after an alarm had been raised.
One of the suspects, an averagely built middle-aged man who was not wearing a mask, attacked the security guard with blows and kicks before hitting him on the head with a stick.
A second suspect left the getaway car, which was a few metres from the main gate, and joined his accomplice in attacking the security guard. Together, they overpowered the guard, clearing the way for the white car, which sped towards Isinya on the Namanga highway. CCTV footage shows two white cars being driven by women, whom police believe were the other members of the group.
Later, one of the cars was found abandoned in Isinya township, 21 kilometres from the scene. Multiple vehicle number plates, a pistol reportedly belonging to the senior police officer and additional cash were recovered. The vehicle is at Isinya Police Station. Once the distress call was made, the home was secured by police officers awaiting crime scene detectives, who reportedly kept curious neighbours away from the scene.
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi told Nation that police had launched investigations into the incident. No suspect has been arrested. “Investigations are active,” said Mr Shikondi, who did not reveal more details.
The incident comes against the backdrop of a string of insecurity incidents in Kitengela town.
In the span of two weeks, three men aged between 23 and 27 have been reported murdered in separate incidents, while scores have been injured by a gang attacking residents at night.
“Kitengela is not safe after 11pm. Last Friday I lost a friend who was attacked by a gang. The postmortem conducted on Sunday at Kitengela Sub-county Hospital mortuary revealed that he was hit by a blunt object in the head, resulting in his untimely death,” Mr John Onyango, a resident, said.
