Bongo flava star Harmonize (Rajab Abdu Kahali) has paid his Italian ex-wife Sarah Michelotti 50,000 Euros (Sh7.5 million) in an out-of-court divorce settlement.
The divorce proceedings began in 2020, after Harmonize confessed to fathering a child with another woman during their four-year relationship.
A year earlier, in September 2019, the couple held a private white wedding, preceded by an Islamic one in Dar es Salaam.
The wedding was attended by 100 invite-only guests, with the ceremony held just six months after their engagement, while on holiday in Italy.
Following the cheating scandal, Sarah, who lives in Tanzania, filed for divorce and sought to be granted half of the musician's property.
The divorce proceedings have been ongoing since December 2020.
Harmonize's biggest financiers
In an interview in March 2021, Sarah said, “I’m not divorced yet, but I hope I will soon. I don’t communicate with Harmonize at all, but my lawyers are doing everything necessary because we need to divide all the assets we acquired during our marriage.”
Sarah met Harmonize when the singer had just made his breakthrough in the Tanzanian music scene under the tutelage of Diamond Platnumz and immediately became one of Harmonize's biggest financiers.
When filing the divorce case at Temeke District Court in Dar es Salaam, Sarah demanded one of Harmonize’s Range Rover Evoques, and a refund of her investment in setting up his Konde Music Worldwide label. There was also a house in contention that Sarah sought to repossess.
Harmonize, who is set to perform in Nairobi next month at the Old School Bongo concert, now says the case is water under the bridge.
“We have been tussling over a few things since we parted ways, and the situation ended up in court. Sarah played a major part in my career, so I reached out to her to settle the issue amicably. I got my lawyer involved, as did Sarah and her family, and we agreed to settle the matter out of court, with me paying her 50,000 Euros (Sh7.5million).”
