Supkem National Chairperson Al-Haji Hassan Ole Naado.
The Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem), Hassan Ole Naado, is now under investigation following leaked CCTV footage showing him firing a gun at protesters.
In the video, Mr Ole Naado is seen aiming a firearm at a group of demonstrators outside Supkem's headquarters in Nairobi and shooting in an attempt to disperse them on October 24, 2025.
The Nation has established that the investigation is active at the Central Police Station, where Mr Ole Naado has already recorded a statement.
The Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) at Central Police Station confirmed that three people have recorded statements and that the firearm allegedly used in the incident has been seized.
“The matter is under active investigation. We have summoned several individuals to record statements,” the DCIO said.
According to the officer, the gun will be subjected to forensic analysis.
Among those who have recorded statements is Supkem National Director-General Lattif Shaban, who has been pushing for fresh elections and a change of leadership.
Mr Lattif told the Nation that he was summoned following a complaint filed by the Supkem chairperson accusing him of being involved in organising the protests.
“I summon you to appear in our DCI Central Nairobi Office No 28 on Thursday 20/11/25. Offence is creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, malicious damage to property. Complainant is Hassan Ole Naado and others,” reads the DCI letter seen by the Nation.
Mr Lattif, however, said his only “offence” is condemning the shooting of youths who were protesting peacefully.
“They asked why I addressed the media in Nairobi. I told them I spoke as a concerned Director-General of the council, duly elected in the 2017 elections. That is a fact — we have never held any other elections since 2017,” he said.
He insisted that he will not relent in calling for fresh polls and denied claims that he financed protesters.
“I live in Nyeri. I don’t know what they used to claim that I paid goons...people were protesting because of elections, nothing else,” he said.
Another council member, Hussein Adan Somo, has also been summoned to appear before investigators.
