The world’s attention tonight will be at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the United States when defending champions Argentina clash with Spain in the final of the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
Millions of people across the globe, who can’t make it to MetLife Stadium, will follow the highly anticipated match on television, radio and online from the comfort of their homes and at entertainment joints.
In Kenya, it will be no different, with thousands of fans expected to flock to various watch parties organised across the country.
The Kenya National Archives area in Nairobi’s Central Business District is expected to be a full house as hundreds of city residents follow the action on a giant screen at a watch party organised by solar energy company, Sun King. The screen, which was set up at the start of the World Cup, has been the scene for many a watch party. A stone’s throw away, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, fans will also have an unforgettable experience of the final at a watch party organised by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa.
The action starts at 4pm with several Kenyan artists lined up to perform, including hip hop group Wakadinali and Afro soul/Afro pop duo Watendawili. However, the entry fee for the party is Sh100, which entitles one to a bottle of Coca-Cola.
Music streaming service provider Spotify has organised a final watch party at Heltz House, Art Gallery in Ngara.
“Watch the finals live at Spotify Greasy Tunes, a high-energy arena with massive screens and roaring crowd reactions. Experience the Nairobi match-day energy where strangers become teammates for 90 minutes,” reads a post by Spotify.
Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), which has been broadcasting the World Cup matches live, will also have a watch party in Nairobi’s Mukuru Slums.
