The rapper Octopizzo has opened up about the challenges of fame, revealing why he now spends most of his time abroad. The rapper, who shot to fame over a decade ago with his hit song 'Namba Nane', says that fame no longer excites him the way it once did.
“Most people think being famous is exciting. At first, when people start recognising you, it feels good. But over time, fame became a burden. There comes a point where it slowly robs you of your peace,” he says.
Octopizzo admits that he misses the ordinary things that most people take for granted.
“I can’t just wake up and walk to the shop to buy milk. I have to think about what I'm wearing. Even going for a simple stroll becomes a big deal. Going to town is difficult because of the attention. Sometimes, it feels like I’m under house arrest,” he says.

Although much of his immediate family, especially his children, live abroad, giving him plenty of reason to travel, the rapper says that what he enjoys most is the freedom that anonymity brings.
"In Europe, I’m just another random guy on the street. I can walk around freely, dress how I want and do simple things without attracting attention. It feels like freedom,” he says.
“I also enjoy spending time in the village in Siaya because people there don’t bother me as much as they do in the city.”
The rapper, who is aiming for a parliamentary seat in the next general election, says he is heavily invested in real estate while also focusing on running his foundation.
