The Wiper Patriotic Front leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and the opposition brigade braved a hail of stones in Garissa town on Saturday, where they delivered their 2027 presidential election campaign message.
Mr Musyoka, accompanied by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, was forced to cut short his speeches as youths pelted their vehicles with stones at several stops in Garissa.
“We have to stop misusing our youths in playing dirty politics,” he said.
Mr Musyoka started by announcing that the youths had a right to make noise before the stones rained.
“This habit of asking youths to pelt us with stones is unacceptable. We all have a right to come to Garissa or any part of Kenya. If [they] thought Kalonzo cannot come to Garissa, he should be told that I am here,” he said.
“I am a democratic Kenyan and will not be drawn into such politics. He is free to move anywhere in this country. Nothing will stop us from going to Mandera and Wajir,” Mr Musyoka said.

The Wiper boss accused the government of a failed medical scheme under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He said President Ruto duped residents of Northern Kenya when he announced the abolition of the vetting process for the issuance of identification cards.
“President Ruto lied to you that he had removed the vetting process for ID cards. That was your right and not his doing. Every Kenyan has a right to get an ID card. Use that opportunity to register as voters so that you can vote him out,” he said.
“Ruto has given instructions that we should not address Garissa University students. These are the Gen-Z that the President ordered to be shot in the legs,” he said
He pledged to permanently rebuild the famous Soko Mugdi in Garissa town, which has always been razed mysteriously.
“We are on course to ensure the affairs of the pastoralists in this region and country are considered in our government. We shall introduce comprehensive insurance for pastoralists so that they can be paid for every animal lost,” he said.

Mr Musyoka used the platform to appeal for peaceful coexistence between the communities living in Kitui, Tana River and Garissa counties.
He accused Kenya Kwanza of failing to ensure cohesion among Kenyans, citing recent clan conflicts over grazing fields along the border of Tana River and Kitui counties.
Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi accused President William Ruto’s government of failing to plan ahead of the anticipated heavy rains.
“We are aware that the government has borrowed Sh51 billion from the World Bank to plan and respond to El Niño. We want to ask the Auditor-General to be on the lookout and ensure these funds are well used,” Mr Muturi said.
Instead of the government planning how the Tana River can be of use to locals, the President has been silent until the alarm is raised over El Niño, prompting the government to rush to the World Bank.
Mr Muturi alleged that President Ruto was planning to use the money for 2027 political campaigns and not for responding to the heavy rains.
He said the government had failed to develop High Grand Falls along the Tana River to save locals from floods and ensure prudent use of excess water whenever it rains.
“We know how the presidents behave with money. He started SHA and our medical services have failed in the country.”

While condemning the chaos that befell them in Garissa, the former Attorney-General blamed CS Duale for sponsoring youths to pelt them with stones.
“We are one people and nobody should separate us. CS Duale is my neighbour back in Nairobi and I fail to understand why he has sent youths to throw stones at us here in Garissa,” he said.
The former AG said he had worked with CS Adan Duale for about 10 years and that it was shameful to send youths to pelt them with stones.
“This is an attempted assassination on leaders of the opposition and it should be condemned by all peace-loving Kenyans. We are all at liberty to express ourselves as per our Constitution. I left the government because President Ruto had turned a blind eye on the killing of youths,” he said.
He questioned President William Ruto’s pledge to pay Sh2 million for a patient in Bomet if the SHA medical scheme was functional.
DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa accused the government of failing to plan ahead of the anticipated heavy rains.
“President has failed to put in place a disaster risk management plan ahead of the anticipated heavy rains when this area remains among the most affected,” he said.
According to Mr Wamalwa, recent opinion polls indicating that 76 per cent of Kenyans believed the country was heading in the wrong direction were nothing but the truth.
“We have a government that has failed Kenyans and people have lost confidence in it. Polls showed that in every 10 people seven don’t trust the government leadership and that is why we are telling President Ruto to prepare to go home,” he said.
Mr Wamalwa said the United Alternative Government would not be intimidated by agents of chaos dispatched by the government.
He challenged the national government to implement the National Disaster Management Bill that was passed.
