The hearing of a case in which a man is charged with killing a General Service Unit (GSU) officer at State House Nairobi, in October last year started on Monday before the High Court in Kibera.
Two witnesses testified of how they saw Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, who has been charged with the murder of Ramadhan Khamis Matamka, approaching Gate D before shooting the officer with an arrow.
GSU officer Kelvin Nyabuto said he spotted Musyimi approaching Gate D carrying what initially appeared to be a piece of wood. He said he later realised the intruder was armed with a bow and arrows.

Recalling the incident, Nyabuto said the attacker appeared to be targeting security officers at the gate. The attack occurred on October 13, 2025.
"I saw a man at a distance carrying what appeared to be a piece of wood. I told my colleague to keep an eye on him," Nyabuto testified.
Moments later, he realised the object was a bow and that the man had already trained an arrow at one of the officers.
He said his colleague was busy inspecting a vehicle entering State House, when he saw the intruder aiming at his direction.
Mr Nyabuto told the court he immediately positioned himself and aimed his rifle in readines to counter the attacker.
"I then changed direction and moved towards where my colleague had been standing. I was ready to engage the man carrying the bow," he testified.
According to the officer, the attacker shot two arrows in quick succession with the first one missing the target.
"The first shot was aimed at the first officer and missed. When it missed, he quickly released another but the second officer stumbled and then shot the officer," Nyabuto told the court.
He said the suspect appeared to target security personnel and not members of the public.

Nyabuto said he had never seen the accused at State House or in its environs before the incident and believed, from what he witnessed, that the attacker had a clear objective.
He said the accused person was wearing black trousers, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a blue T-shirt when he approached Gate D.
The witness said the injured officer was rushed to hospital by colleagues but succumbed to his injury.
The prosecution also called State House gardener Beatrice Awour, who said she witnessed the attack from within the compound.
Awour told the court that two officers were manning Gate D when the suspect struck.
She identified the accused Musyimi, in the dock as the man she saw during the incident.
"At Gate D there were two officers manning the gate. He was aiming at the officers, not civilians," Awour testified.
She further recalled seeing the injured officer pull out the arrow before collapsing.
Earlier in the proceedings, the trial judge advised defence counsel to consult the accused on whether he would be willing to change his plea and opt for the lesser offence of manslaughter.
